Ray “The Tazmexican Devil” Borg
The fighter trains in Jackson Wink MMA and Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he uses Jujutsu, on which he has a black belt, as a basic martial arts, also has good skills in freestyle wrestling. Earlier he demonstrated quite a good boxing, but after a downtime he started to work worse on his feet.
In his first professional fight against Dustin Ortiz, Ray was defeated by a separate decision, for which he recuperated with victories over Shane Howell and Chris Kelades and with a unanimous decision over Geane Herrera.
He then lost to Justin Skoggins and won Louis Smolka and Jussier Formiga, taking a short hit and meeting Demetrious Johnson, who wrestled him in the fifth round. After that Borg caught a year and a half of downtime, returning from which he lost to Ken Casey and took over Gabriel Silva.
Training of a fighter takes place in the hall Gile Ribeiro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu College. Usually, he prefers to spend most of his time in the parterre and has a black belt on Jujutsu. However, he can also work on his feet, but has no good protection.
Unlike his rival, Bontorin did not perform in amateurs and for many years fought in various tournaments, winning the title promoted by Imortal FC in the lightest weight category.
With a record of 13-1, Rogerio took to the Dana White content series, where he caught a compatriot in the face of Gustavo Gabriel at the end of the second round and thus showed willingness to fight in UFC. In his debut under the banner of organization, he beat Magomed Bibulatov with a split, and then extended his winning streak in the battle against Raulian Paiva by technical knockout.
Borg vs Bontorin Prediction
If in the penultimate match the American was not at all what we were used to seeing him as, then his extreme performance showed – we can still count on the return of the old Ray. True, he became really bad in striking. Of course, Borg hadn’t dominated the stand before, but he worked well with his hands. With the difference in anthropometry – Rogerio is a bit higher, and also better in skills and activity, but he will be worse on his feet.
But the differences in this aspect are not so strong that Ray can’t take advantage of his struggle. He’s still strong in grappling, he translates and passes his guard perfectly, and he’s kept his endurance, thanks to which, in fact, he won the last fight, which, like the penultimate one, took place in 135 pounds. Now the American descends to his native lightest weight and meets a guy who is certainly good at Jujutsu, but in comparison has objectively cheaper round game level.
Our prediction: Ray Borg will win.
