License

So far, government regulators have issued gaming certificates for seven casinos that may start offering online poker in the state. Licensed casinos from the Pennsylvania Board of Gaming (PGCB) include Mount Airy, Harrah’s Casino Philadelphia, SugarHouse Casino, Valley Forge, Hollywood Casino, Parx Casino and Sands Bethlehem.

Although PGCB didn’t reveal which poker operators should appear at the start, some of the largest online poker players, such as PokerStars, WSOP.com and 888, are among the top three contenders for starting their business in Pennsylvania. GVC Holdings is also expected to receive Partypoker approval from PGCB.

PokerStars

The world leader in online poker, PokerStars, will certainly not miss the opportunity to enter the regulated online poker market in the USA, and, in fact, the poker room has already received approval to offer online poker, casinos and sports betting thanks to its partnership with Mount Airy Casino.

PokerStars announced their partnership with Mount Airy in August 2018, and the agreement was approved by PGCB at the end of November.

Assuming the test period is successful, Pennsylvania players can expect PokerStars to be on the list of poker rooms allowed to register on July 15th.

Pennsylvania will only be the second state in the US where PokerStars offer their services (the first is New Jersey). Ultimately, this could lead to the creation of the first common liquidity pool in the US if Pennsylvania joins the Multilateral Internet Games Agreement (MSIGA).

Pennsylvania players can expect to see a wide variety of promotions, including deposit bonuses and special series of online tournaments, as was the case during the launch of PokerStars in New Jersey in 2016. PokerStars also offers the widest range of games worldwide, including the popular 6+ Hold’em.

The experience of PokerStars as the company with the largest number of licenses in the world will certainly be useful for the poker operator when it comes to obtaining licenses for new versions of games, which can give PokerStars a huge advantage over its competitors.

WSOP

The WSOP is the most recognized poker brand in the United States and the only network that has a common liquidity in all three regulated states of the United States. The WSOP is currently the market leader in New Jersey and has a monopoly in Nevada.

If the WSOPs are launched in Pennsylvania, they could be a serious competitor to the online poker giant PokerStars. Moreover, the brand can gain a serious advantage over PokerStars if Pennsylvania decides to share its pool of players with Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey. If this happens, then the WSOP network will reach 26 million US residents, which is twice as much as its current reach.

The WSOP is already considered the largest online poker network in the United States, which hosts the country’s largest series of online tournaments. An added benefit of the WSOP is that next year, Pennsylvania players will be able to participate in online wristbands.

888

There is a high probability that 888 Poker will also be able to start their own online gambling activities under their own brand. The network has close ties with Mount Airy and Harrah’s Philadelphia, but it remains to be seen how exactly 888 plan to offer online poker in Pennsylvania.

888 partnered with Mount Airy in 2015 in anticipation of the state online gaming law. The company currently provides play money games, and Mount Airy advertises 888 real-money games in nearby New Jersey.

Under Pennsylvania licensing terms, licensees can have as many display cases as they want, so there is a chance that Mount Airy could take both 888 Poker and PokerStars under their wing.

888 also has exclusive partnerships with WSOP  in the US, providing software to players in Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware.

Due to the launch of the Pennsylvania online poker market on July 15, 888 Poker are unlikely to want to ignore this fact, as the staff is expected to eventually join MSIGA.

Partypoker

Partypoker also closely monitors the online poker market in the United States through its potential partnership with Valley Forge Casino. This casino is owned by Boyd Gaming, which has close ties with MGM Resorts and GVC Holdings.

However, it’s not yet clear whether Partypoker will launch on July 15 in the Pennsylvania market, as the operator is still awaiting approval by the Pennsylvania Gaming Commission.

Partypoker could become a major player in the United States, as the operator recently received the approval of the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) to offer online poker in Nevada. Partypoker already operates in New Jersey, sharing a pool of players with Borgata and MGM.

Once Partypoker launches in Nevada and Pennsylvania, the poker room will be able to have a common network of three states.

Other poker rooms

Along with top online poker rooms, several other operators are also preparing to launch in Pennsylvania through partnerships with local casinos.

Paddy Power and Betfair expected to launch online casinos and even online poker in Pennsylvania. The company is closely associated with Parx Casino, which has demonstrated its willingness to launch online casinos, slot machines and online poker. The casino has chosen GAN plc as a software provider. GANs run Paddy Power Betfair in New Jersey.

SugarHouse Casino in partnership with Rush Street will offer online casino games, but are unlikely to launch online poker in Pennsylvania.

Bonuses and Promotions

Online poker sites that play a large number of players from the PA have an advantage. PokerStars is the first in the Pennsylvanian market to invest $2 million in rake and tournament fees.

The more players, the more tournaments and a wider selection of cash games. Promotions do this. PokerStars PA offers a choice of two welcome bonuses: $30 free if you deposit $20 using the FREE30 code, or a 100% bonus up to $600 using the STARS600 code.

Competition is gradually growing with the advent of new poker rooms. Many players take advantage of this. After all, where there is competition, there are good bonus offers.

Main options and offers:

  • No deposit bonuses: poker sites offer free chips, no deposit is required. But you will need to play a certain number of times to withdraw this money.
  • Welcome Bonuses: A 100% deposit or more is required. Poker rooms offer bonuses up to $1,000.
  • Freeroll tournaments. You start with freerolls and switch to prizes with real money. This feature may also be available in the site loyalty scheme.
  • Reload bonuses: an additional bonus is offered for promotion. As a rule, these are small sentences during the game.
  • Loyalty schemes: all programs on different sites may vary. For PokerStars PA, get treasure chests as well as other prizes if you wish.

Casinos and sports betting have worked well in this state. Players are increasingly encouraged with prizes, bonuses and special offers.
