England Women’s head coach Phil Neville claims the transition into midfield of Lucy Bronze a part of a plan for the Lionesses.
Neville’s choice to deploy the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year from standing at the 3-3 draw against Belgium Women of England was contested after the Lionesses didn’t impress in Thursday’s friendly.
But the England Women head coach is insistent that decision was a part of a plan, with the Bronze herself.
“The matter is that she is [fulfilled ] and wants to perform with there,” Neville explained.
“She’s bought into the plan of this tiny period of giving a platform to get some consistency at the position.
“it is a whole different mindset however I believe that if we are looking at a two-year plan we have to be brave in certain conditions and certain places that we are looking to strengthen and become better in.
“When you have not got Jill Scott, Fran Kirby or Jordan Nobb, then we must find players of that quality, expertise and physical capacity that will take us to the next level.
“Lucy will go back to back. There’s this fixation with me and she enjoying with . Pep Guardiola did it with Phillipp Lahm, performed him right-back when he had been one of those World Cups of the greatest players in the world in one.
“The next season I proceeded to watch Bayern Munich versus Borussia Monchengladbach and that he was at central midfield – that was the best player on the pitch.
“You have got to really have a vision for somebody and you know what? Lucy has the identical vision for me. The staff enjoy her in there. There’ll be times when she is in there and.
“Finally. We are currently attempting to make the team better. We are attempting to get Lucy to impact the team more than she has right-back.”
“I enjoyed the match we played against USA and I played midfield then,” Bronze mentioned.
“This was a battle playing against the best group in the world in a situation I have not played since I was 16, I totally enjoyed it.
“I played it against Canada too but I didn’t enjoy it . I had been tired and it is tough to play with my position at a top rated game let alone a place.
“I was in midfield the other day and I truly enjoyed it. It is funny because two of the women in the group and I’m playing in midfield and I’m kind of being bossed about by them. They are telling me I am doing things wrong.
“It is enjoyable for me personally, I enjoy being pushed. I’m comfortable at uneasy and full-back in midfield but a smile and I am playing. I’m learning new things. Maybe it helps me if I return to full-back, it’s a struggle.”
The Lionesses play Norway Women at a game in Bergen on Tuesday.
