New players, new teams. New hopes, new dreams. David Beckham’s 7-year journey of bringing Inter Miami CF to MLS becomes a reality on March 1st. No star? No stadium? No problem for Inter Miami.
Ronaldo and Messi on the same team? If Beckham did such a transfer, he would become the greatest genius in the history of football. The whole world would watch MLS to see the greatest players. But for now this is all far away, and now the club of David will spend his first season in MLS. To begin with, let’s see what this team is capable of with the current roster.
Los Angeles FC
For the club this is the third season in MLS. In the first, they took third place in the Western Conference, but could not prove themselves properly in the playoffs, where they lost in the 1/8 finals of the Real Salt Lake club with a score of 2: 3. Last season was the second for the club. Los Angeles then won the Western Conference and gave the absolutely best result in the entire league: 72 points and only four losses. It turned out that Los Angeles generally showed the best results in the history of MLS! True, to win a series of playoffs again failed. There, Los Angeles lost to Seattle in the semifinals with a score of 1:3.
LAFC was very dynamic last season, seemingly scoring at will at times. Last season saw Los Angeles FC break all sorts of records as they ran away with the Western Conference and Supporters Shield in just their second MLS season. They haven’t made many changes from their team from last season and top striker Carlos Vela will again be a major threat after scoring 34 goals last season. LAFC scored 85 goals against the 37 they’ve allowed last year. They led the Western Conference with 72 points and a record-setting goal differential of plus-48. Only two other teams in the MLS had goal differentials in the double digits.
Predicted Lineup: Vermeer; El Monir, Segura, Jakovic, Blackmon; Blessing, Atuesta, Ginella; Rodriguez, Rossi, Vela
Inter Miami CF
It’s an important weekend for Inter Miami as they play their first game. They travel to Los Angeles for their debut match and their President, David Beckham will be hoping to see his team get off to a good start. Team has solid roster featuring MLS old hand Wil Trapp and two-time CONCACAF Champions League winner Rodolfo Pizarro, who Liverpool fans will recall from Monterrey’s Club World Cup team. In this case, we observe a wonderful balance between young talents and experienced MLS players who have experience of winning the league.
MLS debutant will be led by Diego Alonso, who twice won the CONCACAF Champions League twice in his career. In addition, the club now employs sports director Paul McDonough, who had a hand in the past achievements of Atlanta. The opinions of experts regarding the prospects of the Inter Miami club were divided. Some people believe in their finish in the playoff zone, while others doubt these chances. But I am inclined to believe that Inter Miami will be able to stake out a place for himself in the seven strongest teams of the Eastern Conference.
It’s a new dawn for football in Florida but this is just about as tough an opening fixture as they come. According to a Thursday story in the Miami Herald, tickets for the match are re-selling for an average price of $149 — the highest number for an MLS opener since SeatGeek started tracking the secondary market in 2010.
Predicted Lineup: Robles; Delagarza, Lillard, Torres, Figal, Powell; Pellegrini, Nguyen, Trapp, Pizarro
LAFC vs Inter Miami Predictions
Inter Miami enter their first ever competitive game against the toughest opposition possible with LAFC welcoming them to the Banc of California Stadium. They might not have won the MLS Cup but Los Angeles FC was generally considered one of the best teams of all time with the way they dominated last year. Carlos Vela was on fire virtually all season long making the club very explosive.
Bookmakers on the side of Los Angeles in the upcoming game. This is true, because Inter will hold the first official match in its history. It seems to us that Inter Miami won’t find it easy at all to get a goal against a Los Angeles FC lineup who will likely boss this game in attack, midfield and defence. We are predicting a very comprehensive 3-1 winning scoreline for Los Angeles FC at full-time.

- LAFC vs Inter Miami Score Prediction: 3-1
