Parker has been in professional boxing since 2012 and is a former WBO world champion. Joseph owned the belt for a short time (about a year and a half) and held two successful defenses. The New Zealander now occupies only 14th place in the overall heavyweight ranking but has excellent chances to fight for the WBO title in the second half of 2020.
Parker spent 28 fights and won 26 victories. In 2018, the New Zealander suffered two defeats on the points at once – from Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. However, the ex-champion returned with early wins over Alexander Flores and Alex Leapai.
Parker is not the largest heavyweight, but fast enough, agile and hardy. Joseph works most often on waste, but he can take the initiative in his own hands. The New Zealander acts in series and focuses on the final punch on the right. The ex-champion is a striker and knocked out 20 opponents (71.4%).
Why was the 39-year-old American invited to take part in a great boxing evening? Firstly, he is in the top 50 rankings. Secondly, Winters has American citizenship, which allowed him to get ahead of boxers from Europe in negotiations with the Parker team.
Shawndell spent 15 fights and won 13 fights. Until the beginning of last year, the American’s results were weak – defeats by Brian Howard (by knockout) and Nicodem Ezhevsky (on points). However, Winters knocked out promising Alexander Teslenko and rose sharply in the ratings. Shawndell later secured success by beating Sergei Verveiko.
The dimensions of the American heavyweight are approximately similar to his opponent, but the difference in speed, boxing IQ and experience is enormous. The only thing Winters can surprise Parker with is the power of the blow. Shawndell knocked out 12 of 13 defeated opponents. However, Joseph has a good “hold” (the New Zealander never lost ahead of schedule).
Joseph Parker vs Shawndell Winters Prediction
Parker, 28, leaves no desire to become the world heavyweight champion again and for this, he signed a contract with British promoter Eddie Hearn. True, he sees Joseph as a stepping stone for young prospectuses. Nevertheless, with successful performances, the New Zealander has the right to count on the title fight. In particular, he is highly rated in the WBO ranking.
Parker’s rival will be the 39-year-old American Winters. Schondell started boxing late and sat in amateurs for a long time. In the professional ring, he debuted only in 2015. Now the American is on the 48th line in the ranking of the heavy division.
