Henry “The Messenger” Cejudo
Fighter training takes place at the Fight Ready MMA camp. Being the gold medalist of the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling, he best shows himself in the stalls, but he is also not without knockout power in his fists and is effective in the stance, where he uses the kickboxing and shotokan karate skills at the yellow belt level.
Having experience in grappling, Cejudo decided not to waste time on amateurs and began his journey in mixed martial arts with professionals. In his first year, he scored a 6–0 record and placed WFF on his track record, taking over Anthony Sessions. Despite the fact that the opposition he had broken then left much to be desired, the American subsequently received an offer to try his hand at UFC.
Only when he got into the promotion, Henry wanted to have a flyweight bout against Scott Jorgensen, but he could not lose weight and made a bantamweight fight against Dustin Kimura, whom he defeated by unanimous decision. After that, he still went down to 125 pounds, where he beat Chris Cariaso, Chico Camus and Jussier Formiga on points. Due to these victories, Cejudo entered the title fight against Demetrious Johnson, who upset him by technical knockout. The fighter could not immediately restore his reputation – Joseph Benavidez prevented him, who defeated him with a separate decision.
Having gone to the lusstrike, he subsequently knocked out and totaled Wilson Reis and Sergio Pettis respectively, having received another title shot and a rematch against Demetrious Johnson, whom he defeated with a split. Defending the championship title, Henry knocked out TJ Dillashaw in 35 seconds, after which he defeated Marlon Moraes in the flyweight belt and became the UFC champion in two weight categories.
Dominick The Dominator Cruz
A fighter prepares for his performances in the Alliance MMA hall. The American uses boxing as a base, and is primarily strong precisely on his feet, where he is distinguished by a footwork, an unpredictable style of striking and fast hands. However, he also has good wrestling skills and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Cruz, like his rival, did not play in the amateur world and put the start of his career in mixed martial arts into professionals. In his first year, speaking in the organization Rage in the Cage, he collected a record of 6-0. After that, the athlete won the champion titles in the light and featherweight scales of the Total Combat promotion, and also lost the fight for the WEC featherweight champion title against Urijah Faber by submission.
Having an asset record of 10-1, Dominick finally moved to the WEC organization and decided to test himself in the bantamweight. Over the course of a year, he made out decisions by Charlie Valencia, Ian McCall, Ivan Lopez and Joseph Benavidez, receiving a title chance against Brian Bowles, whom he defeated by technical knockout. Defending the title, Cruz was better by points than Joseph Benavidez and Scott Jorgensen, respectively, and then, due to the merger of WEC with the UFC, he automatically became the UFC lightweight champion.
In the status of the UFC champion, the American at first defeated Urijah Faber and Demetrious Johnson with totals, but then, due to frequent injuries, he released his belt. Upon returning three years later, Dominick knocked out Takeaki Mizugaki and received the lightweight title fight, in which he defeated split Dillashaw.
Betting Tips Statistics
- Before Cruz was injured he had won 12 fights
- Cejudo is the favorite for victory, comes from winning 5 fights consecutively and is champion of two different weight classes.
- Only if the best version of Cruz returns would he have a chance to win Cejudo, we will see what happens in the match that has the yield pending confirmation, but everything indicates that Cejudo should not have problems in his defense of the title and take the bag.
Cejudo vs Cruz Prediction
In the UFC, Henry only performed twice in the bantamweight. He won the first fight easily, but then his counterpart was Dustin Kimura, and in the second against Marlon Moraes, he lost the first round and dragged only at the expense of a larger gas tank. In turn, Dominick never had problems with stamina. He has an advantage in height and span of 10 centimeters in both cases and is Cejudo’s biggest rival of all time, while he is a natural lightweight weightless.
According to the style of Cruz, Henry is uncomfortable. He is better at a stand – more technical, does more work, is better at defense and surpasses it in anthropometry. Cejudo is more interesting on the ground, but he did not fully adapt his wrestling to mixed martial arts. The champion transfers his counterparts only in a third of cases and has problems with their control, while Dominick has 83% protection against takedowns. To translate it is a difficult task, but it is much more difficult to lie down for such a large athlete who, along with this, has good wrestling skills. Cruz is stronger as a fighter and the high coefficient for him is due only to his downtime, but knowing this guy, he would hardly have exchanged his legacy for a check.
- Our prediction: Dominick Cruz will win.
