Gary Kirsten will hold discussions over England head coach’s vacant purpose with ECB director of cricket Ashley Giles on Wednesday, Sky Sports News understands.
Kirsten is the top candidate to substitute Trevor Bayliss, who stepped down following the Ashes series against Australia.
Sky Sports News knows Giles can be meeting other hopefuls and the interview procedure is continuing.
The 51-year-old has past experience of global training, having appreciated in his profession.
Giles has stated his preference as head coach for the Englishman, together with Chris Silverwood – the present fast bowling coach – considered another front-runner because of his past experience at Essex.
The Alec Stewart of surrey continues to be connected with the function, as has Ireland coach Graham Ford and England’s batting trainer Graham Thorpe.
Giles will aspire to appoint a new head coach in time for England’s tour of New Zealand, that starts with a global in Christchurch on November 1.
