Bet and win
Barty made her debut very early and at age 13 she won her first ITF junior title. Even then, her statistics were amazing: taking part in five tournaments, the Australian scored 24 victories and suffered only 2 defeats. In 2011, Ashleigh played at the home junior Grand Slam tournament, losing in the first match. However, this loss did not discourage her: in the summer, the girl played at youthful Wimbledon and won the main trophy in singles.
In parallel, Barty performed on professional courts. Shortly after winning at Wimbledon, she received a wild card to participate in the qualification for the US Open but was unable to break into the main draw, losing to Julia Glushko. However, at the end of the year, the girl received an invitation to the Australian Open, where she was noted in both singles and doubles.
In 2012, Ashleigh made her debut on the WTA tour. Having played in Brisbane and Hobart, she switched to less status ITF tournaments and soon won her first adult title, and by the end of the season, she added three more trophies.
The next season, Ashleigh continued to progress. Speaking with Casey Dellacqua, she made it to the finals of the Australian Open and later took part in the matches of the Federation Cup. In Birmingham, Ashleigh and Casey were able to take the pair trophy, but they could not repeat this achievement at Wimbledon. At the US Open, the girls made it to the finals again and lost again.
The year 2014 brought Ashleigh another pair of WTA trophies, won on the dirt platforms of Strasbourg. Despite the successes achieved, unexpectedly for all, Barty announced that she was going to take a break. She later said: “Everything developed too quickly. I spent too much time on the road. I wanted to live a normal life for a teenager and get the usual experience for this age. ” However, the girl could not completely abandon the sport and for some time playing cricket.
Barty’s return to tennis took place in 2016 when Craig Tyzzer became her coach. At first, the athlete performed only in pairs, and only in May again tried her hand in singles. In Nottingham, Ashleigh managed to break into the quarterfinals, but later she dropped out for a long time due to a stress fracture in her arm.
The following season, the Australian began outside the top 250. Soon she showed good results, making her way to the third round of the Australian Open, and won the main trophy of the tournament in Malaysia in singles and doubles. Despite a rather mediocre performance at the remaining Grand Slam, in the fall, Barty made it to the Wuhan Premiere finals and ended the season in the top 20.
2018 brought Ashleigh the WTA Nottingham title, as well as the main prize of the small Final tournament in Zhuhai. In addition, paired with Coco Vandeweghe, Ashleigh won the doubles US Open. The following season, the Australian celebrated her first career victory at the Grand Slam singles competition (Roland Garros). In addition, she won the championship in Birmingham, but perhaps the most notable event of the second half of 2019 was the victory in the WTA Tour Finals, where Barty beat last year’s champion Elina Svitolina.
Tennis player finished the season in the rank of the first racket of the world.
Ashleigh Barty is close to her second career final of the Grand Slam. Last season, the first racket of the world was the Roland Garros trophy. In Melbourne, last year’s best achievement was last year’s quarterfinal.
Before the semi-final match against Kvitova (7-6, 6-2), in our prediction for the match, we noticed that during the current tournament Barty was unable to demonstrate an over-reliable game on his pitch.
The tennis player has the greatest difficulties on the second serve. In the matches against Riske and Kvitova, she took 28 and 35% of points in the second serve. Opponents took full advantage of this. She took breaks four times at risk, Kvitova used two attempts, and at the same time had 12 breakpoints.
We also add that in the last two matches, against the backdrop of difficult rivals, Ashleigh did not show a positive balance for the winners-anchors. Ahead is a very difficult opponent, able to take advantage of the downturns in Ashleigh’s game.
Kenin is right-handed, prefers an aggressive style of play and has a powerful punch. Sofia feels more confident on hard – on this surface she won the vast majority of fights.
Sofia showed herself brightly at the junior level, having won a number of prestigious championships, among others – the Orange Bowl championship. She also managed to get into the final of the junior US Open, where she was defeated. Kenin finished the season of 2015 in the status of the 2nd racket of the planet among juniors.
At the age of fifteen, Sofia began to actively participate in adult competitions. A year later, she won two ITF championships, first won the Futures and made her debut in the Grand Slam.
In 2017, Kenin reached the 3rd stage of the open American tournament, and also defeated all rivals in the three ITF championships. The following year, the American entered the first hundred of the ranking, winning another ITF championship and reaching the semifinal stage of the WTA competition. In addition, she appeared as part of her national team in the Federation Cup – the US team made it to the final round, where they lost to Czech opponents.
At the beginning of the 2019 season, Sofia got the WTA champion title alone, having beaten the opponent from Slovakia in two sets in a decisive match. Immediately after that, at the WTA Championship in pairs held in New Zealand, Kenin won by playing with Canadian partner Bushar.
For the first time in her career, Sofia Kenin entered the semifinals of the Grand Slam tournament. You can argue that the tournament bracket was favorable for the American tennis player. In every match, Sofia went in the line of bookmakers as a favorite, did not meet any representatives of the top 20 on her way.
However, the current success is a continuation of the rise of the talented American from last season, when Sofia really made herself known.
It was in the 2019 season that Kenin played four times against Barty. There were some failures, but in every game, in at least one set it imposed a fight. She won one match in Toronto on Hard.
In the quarterfinal match in Melbourne against Jaber (6-4, 6-4), Kenin played tactically competently. I didn’t take risks, I often waited for the mistakes of the constantly attacking opponent, I played tightly and deeply under the backline. In the arsenal of the tennis player, there is a good first serve, capable of powerfully and reliably punching, keeping pace.
She has played against Barty more than once, she knows the playing style of the Australian tennis player very well.
Statistics and personal meetings
- In five personal meetings, Barty won four times.
- On the open hard in the season of 2019, tennis players exchanged victories.
- Barty has a win-win series of nine matches.

A lot of things in the upcoming semi-finals point to Barty’s possible victory: an advantage in personal meetings, support for the stands, the experience of playing at the decisive stages of the “majors”.
However, do not underestimate Kenin. Tennis player last season took a serious step forward, in the last two matches against Barty played on an equal footing, she won one match. In the last personal meeting in Wuhan, she imposed an equal fight, although she was against the backdrop of serious loads then. We offer a prediction for a positive head start on games for the underdog.
